Buffy 20th Anniversary

NYC.jpg

20 years! Wow. What a long time to have been a fan of something!

Sadly, as I get older, these anniversary things for TV shows and movies come around more and more…

Back to Buffy, though – WOW again!

I can’t tell you what a big part of my life Buffy the Vampire slayer as been. It’s formed 90% of my personality. Just kidding… maybe? I mean, how could we know?!

When I was a kid (once upon a time) and Buffy started it set me and my best friend off into a lifelong obsession which not only meant we would spend hours watching and re-watching the show but also read the books (which I still have… both fiction and the behind the scenes books!), collect the magazine (which I still have) and go to sci-fi conventions before they were actually cool.

We once actually took time off school to go to a convention, that’s how cool and obsessed we were. I once met Amber Benson, who played Tara, and sadly missed out on meeting James Marsters, who played Spike, because I had an exam I couldn’t get out of. How unfair! (I suppose the teachers were already unamused by the time I skipped an exam to go to London to see Hanson in concert…).

Whilst there are so many things to say about Joss Whedon’s creation and the friendships it built (and sometimes still builds) I know there are far more articulate blogs and e-magazine things which will do a better job so, for now, I’ll just say I’m so happy to have experienced the show when it aired and so happy it gave me a life long best friend who still appreciates it when I quote the show and who will never get sick of me buying Buffy themed gifts even though we’re now in our 30’s!

If you want me to do a breakdown of all the Buffy books I have I can do – I can even, potentially, do a giveaway because I have multiple copies of some of them… oops!

Well, I guess that’s it.

If the apocalypse comes, beep me.

  1. One of my very best friends (whom I met in university) introduced me to the show – I started binge-watching and at some point around Hush I just had that “where have you been all my life?” moment! A couple years later and I’m still Buffy-crazed, and it’s quite possible that some of my other friends are getting sick of my obsession haha Oh well, glad to know there are others out there 🙂
