Here’s something I never thought I’d say; I’ve been running for fun.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s also for fitness because I’m a chubby bunny, however, it’s only recently I’ve hit my stride (oh-Ho) with the whole running mentality.
When I first got into running I was doing it like everyone else does; timing, distance, calories. Whilst I did enjoy some aspects of that format of exercise (seeing how far you’ve gone is always fun) I only just recently found that it’s not the only way!
Since moving my Fitbit and iPod have been put in a box and I’m too lazy to look for them. Rather than use that as excuse to NOT workout I bit the bullet and ran without music or with any idea of how far I was going, how fast or how long.
Taking those controls away have made me look at running in a new light. It’s not about making progress anymore but running because I like the way it makes me feel.
To be honest I AM probably doing less, distance-wise, because I have to wrestle Juno (my running partner) away from either other dogs or just away from whatever smell distracted her (running with a scent hound is grrrreat) but it doesn’t bother me. I’m currently in the frame of mind that means I don’t care about things like that. I’m enjoying it as part of bonding with the pup and not listening to music means I can interact with her and also keep running at my natural rhythm (I’ve found I run better to a count of four).
Perhaps one day I’ll go back to going out for 5k runs just for the sake of it but right now I’m loving running just to do it.
