Perhaps one of the most quoted movies in my life – particularly when coming and going from my house you’ll hear a lot of “H and G” (“Hi and Goodbye… *eye roll*).
As it’s Valentines day I suppose it’s best I stick with a more romantic line;
“Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together… and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home… only to no home I’d ever known… I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like… magic.”
Who hasn’t watched this? [Note; if you haven’t please will you?]
It was one of those movies we watched as kids over and over, probably not appreciating the romance factors as much as liking the soundtrack (It’s one of my ultimate OST’s) and liking Tom and Meg on screen together [we were also Joe vs the Volcano and You’ve got Mail addicts). There are so many lines and the locations made me fall in love with Seattle. I got to realise my dreams of the place when I visited it and stayed in a hostel right across the street from Pike Place Market.
It is the epitome of 90’s style for me; if I could grow up and be Annie [Meg Ryan] I would be happy… never mind the fact I’m already grown up. Psh.
The houseboat, the city, the script, the actors; a perfect combination. It also happens to be a screenplay written by a very influential woman in my adult life; Norah Ephron.
Do you have fond memories of this movie? A favourite line? Or are you looking at this and thinking it was a terrible movie and I’m insane? [Because that’s something I’m used to… I actually enjoyed the movie Avatar: The Last Airbender soooo…]
